Are these "dream RVs" a sign of the future?
"In a culture in which people are easily lured by the appeal of status-enhancing symbols [such as huge RVs]," writes Brooklyn artist Kevin Cyr on his web site, "I find beauty in...the old RVs parked off a main road. Removing them from their everyday context gives them portrait-like importance. I paint with devoted attention to every imperfection and sign of age."
Although Cyr has a series of attractive drawings of older, well-used RVs, he's recently gained attention for a couple of whimsical new RVs – his urban creations, the Camper Bike and the Camper Kart. The two have gained some media exposure in a variety of blogs and in magazines such as Intersection and Make.
Cyr's work, in his words, "investigates habitats and housing; recycling and ecology; exploration and mobility" and his projects are "an expression of self-reliance."
