Paddywagontours
My trip to Ireland, despite being thousands of miles from Aus, was the ultimate jam-packed cure for homesickness. A friend recommended that for my half-term holidays I go on a tour with Paddywagon tours. To my delight, 21 of the 22 people on the coach were Aussies most of them Gappies like myself, all ready to let loose and party right the way 'round Ireland.
Besides my fellow Gaps, there was one thing that made the experience with Paddywagon Tours the adventure it was - the bus driver. Each day as we chugged along the coastline he would deliver us with hours of history and stories of all the places we visited, keeping us further entertained with his crude Irish sense of humour. He also gave us fantastic advice for the best clubs, bars, restaurants and shopping in each city, joining us a few nights a week for a pint of Guiness.
Blarney Castle was certainly a highlight, where we hung backwards, upside down off the top of tower to kiss some mythical stone (that thousands of other people had locked-lips with, but that didn't really phase you dangling a hundred feet unsupported off the ground). And of course the nightlife of the cities we stayed in. Belfast, despite being known for its warzone appeal, was the best place by far for clubs and bars.
I was expecting a laid back, mostly scenic tour of the country, but Paddywagon Tours gave me an unexpected party holiday. I recommend the company to all young travellers looking for that perfect balance of history and great nightlife.
