Horse Make Wagon

Originating in East Anglia, the Suffolk is the oldest breed of heavy horse in Britain today, and thought to be rarer than the Mountain Gorilla. Although there is some argument that suggests the breed dates back as far as the thirteenth century, descriptions of the Suffolk Punch, as it is often known, can be dated to the fifteenth century. The Suffolk has the longest unbroken pedigree of any breed. Indeed the ancestry of every Suffolk alive today can be traced back through the direct male line to Thomas Crisp's stallion, 'Horse of Ufford' which was foaled in 1768.

Breed Description

The farmers of East Anglia needed a horse to cater for their specific needs. With heavy clay soil to plough they required an animal with stamina and staying power. The Suffolk Punch was that horse.

The breed is renowned for its placid temperament and early maturity, often put to light work at just two years of age and regularly surviving well into its thirties.
